Session 7 - Making the International News

This week the girls used their imaginations to imagine they were able to travel not only to different countries but also to different times, the girls worked in groups to make a news broadcast which they then filmed in the green room.  Miss Tickle explained that in each group they would need an anchor, who would film all the links and several reporters and interviewees. 

The girls thoroughly enjoyed adding details to their studio scripts and practising their accent to become William the Conquerer!

One girl in each group took on the part of Kate Sheppard, who fought for the right for women to vote in New Zealand and another became Dr Frank Jenner, whose team played an important role in stopping smallpox.

After rehearsing and trying on costumes the girls acted their scripts out in the green room.  It was brilliant fun and the girls really got into character.  To finish the girls enjoyed playing the part of a newspaper journalist and creating their own news stories for the Daily Shine.

The girls are looking forward to seeing the finished news reports, thank you to Miss Tickle for organising such a fun morning.

Session 6 - Literature's Imaginary Lands

Mrs Barry led a fabulous session on some popular children's literature.  The girls discussed books where the story is set in an imaginary land with lots of fantasy characters, they discussed Alice in Wonderland and how the adventures began with her falling down a rabbit hole and meeting some fantastic characters like the Mad Hatter and the Cheshire Cat.  Mrs Barry explained that there are lots of books which begin with a character entering a new world through a portal, for example The Wizard of Oz,  where Dorothy left Kansas by a tornado and landed in Munchkin country and Gulliver being washed up in Liliput, which included imaginary characters such as the Liliputians in Gullivers Travels and the talking fawn in The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe, the girls enjoyed

The girls played a game where they created characters drawing different parts of a character and then passing it on to the next person until the character was complete.  They also created an imaginary land for a fantasy story, the girls let their imaginations run wild and came up with some fantastic ideas.

It was great fun to use our imaginations and think about imaginary lands and characters.  Thank you to Mrs Barry for a creative and fun session.
